Leaving homelessness can take a long time. Our director shared some texts with us that she received just after dinner one evening from a client who had been working towards housing. His criminal background from over 10 years ago was a barrier. There were days that he thought he would always be homeless-and it was on those days that it was important for the Community Kitchen and our volunteers to be there, to hope for him, and to provide encouragement.
Through persistence over a couple of years, he found a landlord that would work with him and he was housed.
We, as a community, need to be quick to realize that how things appear aren’t always what they seem. It’s our honor to walk alongside people as they continue on their journey. “Just wanna call some place home, not camp.😃”
